Arizona Daily Star: Better future motivates GED grads

Jose Saldivar, 22, waved to his infant daughter, Larissa, from the stage at a ceremony Thursday honoring him and 225 others for earning their GED diplomas.
But as Saldivar and his fellow students celebrated their accomplishments at the Tucson Convention Center event, the future of the program that helped them is in doubt.
Next year’s state budget doesn’t include any funds for adult education, and Arizona could soon be the only state in the nation with no state-funded study program for the GED, a high school equivalency certificate.
The program will continue, however, for at least another year through a funding collaboration among community colleges and the state education department.
Saldivar said Larissa and a baby on the way were his motivation for getting a GED….for full article click here
