Community colleges and the state education department will spend federal stimulus funds to save adult education in the state. The recently signed state budget eliminated all funds for adult education, about $4.4 million. That endangered $11.8 million in matching federal funds. PCC has committed to pay $400,000 from stimulus money it previously received, and Tempe-based Rio Salado Community College will pay $425,000.
